Downtown Marquette
Join the throngs of people who line the starting chute on Washington Street in downtown Marquette to cheer the dogs and mushers at the start of the annual U.P. 200 Sled Dog Championship. While the dogs and mushers race off into the night a fireworks display kicks off Winterfest. The Lower Harbor Park hosts the weekend-long winter festivities that include broomball tournaments, snow sculpture contest, kiddie mutt races, snowshoe obstacle course and hayrides. Many shopkeepers offer samples of hot cider, cocoa and treats. At the end of the race, enthusiastic onlookers cheer the racers back into Marquette at the Lower Harbor Park. Please call the Convention Visitors Bureau at 800-544-4321 for more information or visit www.up200.org.
